If I have email marketing software that manages the subscription list and newsletter etc, now what do I need?

Do I need a subscribe and unsubscribe email address?

Are those just regular email addresses? How does that work?

Just sign up with amember or aweber. They manage all of what you said and they do more.

You need a subscribe form on your site where your visitors can leave their email address.
Your email software software collects this addressess and you can email them.

Just make sure you always add an unsubscribe link at the bottom of each email you send out. I think this helps save you from spam complaints. I don't know if the different email programs do this automatically or not.

Do a google search for Can-Spam laws.

These are the requirements that you need to follow.

Acrimon...it seems what you need to do..is some homework....read some books on email marketing...get yourself acquainted before you jump in. There are plenty of tutorials available both on aweber..and through google. The nice thing with Aweber..is that they have you covered in all the Can Spam laws.

You can use freeautobot.com if you want a free auto responder. You create your emails in their system. It's really easy to set up.

looks interesting, but how do the emails look? What are the catches (beyond what they claim?) I'm leery of that site because it is really spammy...

Try SendStudio it's really great and simple, check the video! I'm using them since 2004 and the latest release it's amazing. I simply got in love with SendStudio's latest release features which include: live preview in different browsers (outlook, gmail, aol, hotmail, yahoo, etc.), antispam filter check, etc.

If you say that you already have an email marketing software, then all you need to do next is to write good and quality articles in your blog and invite your visitors to signup for latest news from you.

Offer them something free in exchange, an ebook, an article, a great product, software, etc.

This small stepts should help you! (If not get an ebook related to email marketing, that will help you more).

    Good luck!
    Robert
