    Yellow,

    I have a forum with 8k members.

I wish to send them newsletter but dreamhost doesnt allow me to.

So i want a cheap hosting or whatever which I can use to email my forum members about announcements and the like.

Any friends know where I can get such kind of service ??

If you use VB, it sends email via cron...sending a few every hour and so on....Most hosts shouldn't have problems with that..I use mine with Hostgator without any problem at all

    Dreamhost doesnt allow that.

They need details of "opt in" and what not.

Ne other option other than vb internal ?

I noticed these guys advertising on DP a few weeks back, I bookmarked it to take a look later - http://www.activecampaign.com/12all/order.php
Still not signed up or used them yet so I can't vouch for them, but they are cheap.

Wait wait, I don't get it - you cannot e-mail your subscribed forum members from your vbulletin admin panel?

That actually seems pretty pricey if you're sending out any decent quantities of emails.

I posted one above that is the cheapest I've come across, though like I've said, I've not actually used it yet.

We currently have a white label solution with Bronto, though Constant Contacts does the same job and is a little cheaper.

We send out between 250,000 and 3,000,000 emails per month, all are our clients opt-in lists before I get accused of spamming ;) So it depends on how scaleable you want to be - with Campaign Monitor, at a flat rate of 1c per recipient we'd pay out tens of thousands per month!

You should make sure your vBulletin terms include a section that basically acts as a single opt-in when they sign up for your forum. You could put something simple that states by signing up to your forum, they will receive occassional emails.

I would also support that with a 2nd opt in when they verify their email address to gain forum access, where I'd state again that participating in your forum will put them on your email list. Make sure you meet all the opt-out and unsubscribe requirements as well, when you do send your email.

Danay Escanaverino, of Filinet, wrote a good article for us you might find useful: http://www.affiliateprograms.com/an-affiliates-guide-to-successful-email-marketing/879/1.html

Thanks for the links dave and paul. Greened :)

I have changed the tos of vbulletin forum, wherein It is mentioned that they will receive occasional emails.

But dreamhost does not count it as opt in. Moreover, I also used phplist to send emails, but they said they do not accept that script / software for sending emails.

So the best option for me is to send emails using a different emailing service or host.

I will go through the links. Thank you guys, you have been very supportive.

We've played around with CampaignMonitor, after being, well, disgruntled by Constant Contact. Seems like a great interface - the only catch (that is really poorly documented) is that when you setup your email, it has to get approved by them... The turn around time is stated as '12 hours'... LOL.

Make sure your first email (and possibly all of them) aren't mission critical or time sensitive.

    Cheers,

Another vote for PhpList. Even you don't mind tinkering with it a bit, it can do the job, even with hosts that throttle the number of email you can send per hour.

For true high volumes, though, you're going to need to go to a GetResponse or Aweber solution.
