    Hi everyone,

..just wondering, where do you all gather your email lists from? Besides the obvious method of promoting your site, encouraging sign-ups, and purchasing lists...where do you find emails to incorporate into your schedules email blasts? Also, is it legal for us all to trade email lists as long as we use the CAN-SPAM laws, etc? I would sure like to market to new people as I'm sur eyou all would too....what do you all think?

You can buy email lists, but it's a decidably dodogy practice. Unless
the list has double confirmed that they want to receive random
marketing messages, you're on shady ground.

Even if they do want to receive your messages, they're likely to be
highly unresponsive, simply due to the high number of message they
    receive.

In short, don't buy email lists.

You can build your own by offering freebies and similar stuff (see my
sig for an example). I find this works very well.

We can "trade" lists.. in a manner of speaking. For example, I could
partner with you and we agree to send specific emails to our lists. In
this way, you don't get access to or a copy of my list, and I don't get
yours, but we agree to cooperate.

That way it's all above board.

I think there's an email going around now offering email listing. I've received about four or five of those (maybe it was a spam? ).

You can do a blog search or keyword search and look for prospects... maybe even look over craigslist.org...

    :)

Run a directory, and accept free submissions, this is an easy way to gather emails.

Just launch a free newsletter offer or free e-book offer for getting signed with you. You can gather valid e-mail IDs. (I am gathering at least 20 new members daily)
