Hi I got an email from the abuse team of my host - "Who ever is using this IP is registering false handles (multiples, too) at aspd.net and we would like you to let them know that violates our TOS and probably that of your service as well." Does anyone know what that means and how best to deal with it, I have being givem 12 hours to sort it or they threatended to terminate my service and fine me $25 per violation ? My site is a proxy am - I liable for what, the users do ? I was going to email back and say the complaining site should just ban my ip if they do not like the traffic - is this a acceptable response Any help greatly appreciated Thanks Marx
hmmm, thats a pickle! and kinda sorta yes you are liable for what your users do, but you can always get outa it as long as you got a good TOS, and it clearly states they have to agree to use your site. as for you hosting fining you, prolly not, just work with them and see what other info is given......
I dont think you really hold much liability as a proxy site operator, because you aren't policing the actions of your users... But, your host can pretty much do whatever they want. I dont see how they could fine you, I've never seen a TOS that allowed for fines by a host... Maybe extra charges for using resources, but that's it. Basically, find a new host.
The way I see it, they're not blaming you, they're blaming your user, so just ban that IP or tell them to do it, since they control the server. It's not a problem to worry about.
