Nowaday when we register a new account, we'll asking submit an email address and click on the confirmation link on received mail to complete the registration, but some member may failed to receive it or ISP marked as spam and drop into trashbox, it cause member failed to finish the validation. member may leave your website since they feel not friendly. but if we gave up this confirmation process, member could easy submit the in-accurate email address, and get very bad on marketting process. any ideas?
The biggest reason for it, is spam reduction. They also sometimes market to the emails as well with updates etc.. I think it would be taking a step back if they eliminated the confirmation email.
depends what your products are, if it's free than spam reduction is necessary.... if paid then you need to think cleverly how to avoid reduction in sales.
on my forum I did away with the email conformation thing and now I just send new users to moderation and once I confirm their IP isn't spam I approve them. Instead of email marketing, now I use Private Message Marketing and then the users get a email when they receive a pm on the forum.
