The tax we pay in the UK is so high and is wasted on mostly crap. Cant they give them a bit extra? or even look at where they can justify how much they live on.

One thing the goverment should take a look at to save millions is to restructure the NHS.

Free health care for all :eek:I dont think so!
Free health care for them who realy needs it.....Yes. Not my throats a bit sore give me free stuff and waste 15 minutes of a docters time.

Its so sick to think old people who may have fought in a war for their coutry is going hungry.

That happens in almost every country, even at developed countries, misery is increasing and nobody to take actions against...

That's sad to hear, old people need to be treated better as they gave a lot to the country.

So sad to hear this. The ederly should enjoy their retirement, not skipping meals just to be able to afford basic necessities.

I'm sorry to hear that, not being able to afford proper meals isn't good. But at the same time, I firmly believe people shouldn't rely on government to satisfy all their needs/desires... people can support themselves and find ways and should plan for the future when they're young, not depend on others to get them by. Of course, there are many things in the government that inhibit this as well.. so that's the problem, especially for when these seniors were young.

The elderly, the disabled and the poor are easy targets for most governments. If the government thinks they can get away with ignoring them and the populace is too "busy" to create some pressure then ignored they stay. If you want something done do it yourself. Get out there and start helping your local elderly. Bring them cooked meals or just show up now and again for a cuppa and a chat. The more people you get involved the better. Its not hard to help out locally anyone can do it. Ive always enjoyed talking to my elderly relatives about old Ireland. They can have some interesting tales to tell:)

Honestly though I think most people are to self involved to care enough about these issues. Its a pity.

It's really appalling to read these kind of news nowadays. But I'm optimistic that not all is lost. People are intrinsically good and now that it's already in the media limelight I hope that they take action about it (we included).

This is very sad but true reflection of the present state of world economy. Having had a reasonably good time just 1-2 years back, people always struggle in the initial days of tough times.

Hopefully, we will find a way out of the present mess.....quickly!

Well staying in the UK like I said we do pay alot of tax so gettig it back in a form of a pension when over the age of 65 and have been working since the age of 16 is very little to ask dont you think?

If the goverment never took so much tax and NI from our wages we would have an bit extra to put away.
