I Contacted A Guy About Making Me A Login/User Script With A Private Messaging System, His Rates Where $24/Hr... I Had A Meeting With Him On Gmail And He Agreed. It Was About 2 Months Later When I Received The Finished Work, With A Bill For $2500, I Told Him To Stick It Where The Sun Don't Shine And Wound Up Finding A Tutorial Online.
Depends on the provider you find, I had similar experience with oDesk where a guy offered a very low rate for creating content, I gave him a quick task that shouldn't have lasted more than 1 hour as a test drive. The day after I discovered I was billed for 8 hours and the guy was still "working" on it... of course I cut the cord on this one.... But again, it depends on the person on the other side, I found through Elance some honest hard working providers with whom I'm still working till today Don't give up, ask them how long will it take them to complete the job, limit them with the hours they can charge (in odesk its actually built in their backend) and you won't get surprised. Good luck
I've heard both good and bad. unfortunately, you have to wade through the bad, but if you find someone good on elance (or any of those sites) hold on to them. And remember, don't accept someone just because they're the cheapest one. I still say finding someone local you can meet in person is a lot better option. You pay more, but you get more.
Best option is to go for a fixed fee project. This will require some extra work from you as you have to prepare a good project specifications but that will help you get a fixed price coder and an expected time of delivery. I work as a coder and always quote with fixed price, if client hasn't got a specs I develop it for him, this way we both know what to offer and what to expect. I agree with JeremyMorgan that one should stick to a good coder and never go for any one just because he is cheap and final words never pay anything in advance for projects < 500 instead put money in escrow and release payment on project completion only.
Definitely good advice. Unfortunately you can't trust anyone, especially the first time working with them. Always choose an escrow option.
LoL you are kidding, Ive had the worst experiences ever in that site.. the trend there is to be a lazy worker, and to have big fangs... to be smart ass... Ive lost money Time and health with them so I dont recommend them that much...
Yea I Live In Indiana And Surprisingly I Did A Job Search And Theirs More Programmers Here Than New York And The Bigger Cities
This is a general warning to anyone who is thinking of using Aman Aujla to do any programming work for them. STAY AWAY FROM HIM... This guy ripped me off for $700 + He started designing software for me. He was all very nice to begin with...always kept contacting me, and when he got 80% finished, I stupidly paid him, thinking I could trust him From that point I never heard from him again. He just vanished and didn't respond to any emails or posts I made to him on Elance where he sources a lot of his work. Just stay away from him... --Greg
Let me get this straight: you hired someone to do something for you on an hourly wage. Then you decided to cancel it after it is done because it was too expensive? You sound more like a bad client. It is your fault for not given the coder a limit and expected something to be cheap based on your hunches. I never had a problem reading caps, unless we are taking about paragraphs of text. I can understand if English was your second language. Peace,
Don't assume 'bad' client' until you know the facts...Eh! The guy quoted a 'project price', finsished 80% of it....I stupidly paid him because I felt I could trust him to finish what he said he would. But he ran as soon as he got paid. It's got nothing to do with being 'cheap' --Glen
Thanks Tauren...I know. The problem is that I have had 12 different software applications developed using other programmer outsources over the past year, and I haven't had one problem with any of them. I've got the system 'down pat', and I'm usually so careful, but I ignored one of my own commandments this time ...and got punished. --Glen
i agree must of the people i get in the elance are very high... if we say 50-500$ project ... they bid with 1000-1500$ and only normal work like joomla ,wordpress, shopping cart things gets many proposals...others..even if there are some proposals ,they are very high scriptlance is much busier site but very unrelaible...
Fixed price is good option... but in fixed price also u need to be very lucky to get all things done with in the given time..... in most of the cases......always some more days and week..... so its rather matter of finding good programmers...
