This is Einstein's famous riddle, that he stated only 2% of the World's Population could solve (well, back then, anyways). It's a fun way to work your brain and waste 40 minutes or so of your time at work Here's the riddle: In a street there are five houses, painted five different colors. In each house lives a person of different nationality: a Brit, a Swede, a Norwegian, a German and a Dane, not in this particular order. These five homeowners each drink a different kind of beverage, smoke a different brand of cigar and keep a different pet. The question is: who owns the fish? Necessary clues: 1. The British man lives in a red house. 2. The Swedish man keeps dogs as pets. 3. The Danish man drinks tea. 4. The Green house is next to, and on the left of the White house. 5. The owner of the Green house drinks coffee. 6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds. 7. The owner of the Yellow house smokes Dunhill. 8. The man living in the center house drinks milk. 9. The Norwegian lives in the first house. 10. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats. 11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill. 12. The man who smokes Blue Master drinks beer. 13. The German smokes Prince. 14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house. 15. The Blends smoker lives next to the one who drinks water. My tip: keep an excel spreadsheet handy Good luck! And don't google it, you'll only spoil it
Hi Tudi, I really liked this riddle. Please post more of such ones so that I can keep working my brain as you say. cheers, jay
I'm glad you enjoy it Jayasimha. I'm afraid I don't really know any similar riddles, I just stumbled upon this one myself a couple of days ago. I spent around 45 minutes to complete it using an excel sheet and a cup of coffee, lol. Btw, there aren't any silly tricks. It's just pure logic and combinations. For anyone that solves it, please don't post the answer here, so you don't spoil it for other forumists Thanks.
Took me about 45 mins to work it out... I've attached the solution in a spreadsheet for those interested... It has the facts correspondingly colored and an arrangement of them in the right order. Thanks for getting my brain working today. Cheers
I think it's patience, rather than smarts, that counts in puzzles of this sort.... So, I'm one of the 2% most patient people in the world....
the answer is east, but i wont spoil ti by posting it here. just open a spreadsheet in your mind and start filling cells, the only logical answer is the remaining cell. its called imaginative thinking
This is a classic logic problem. You can find lots like it in puzzle books found on newsstands. They are tons of fun!
Got it in about 8 minutes. Just grab a piece of paper and a pen and create some notation to keep the relationships clear. It makes things a lot easier.
You're one of the 3% of the 2% of the smart 2% that can solve it that fast. So basically you're 0.0013333333333333333333333333333333(3) of the entire World Population. Congrats edman!
