Eight-year-old 'marries' His School Sweetheart Before Succumbing to Leukemia

In a touching story, 8-year-old Reece Fleming "married" special friend Elleanor Purgslove the day before he succumbed to leukemia.

Reece was diagnosed with the fatal blood cancer in 2004 and battled his condition for 4 years. However when doctors told him that he just had a few weeks to live, then he proposed to his school sweetheart Elleanor at a laser tag party.

Reece's mother Lorraine Fleming and his stepfather Mick Thompson tried to fulfill all his wishes before he died.

"Him and Ellie had been 'special friends' for a couple of years but then they broke up," Mrs Fleming told The Daily Telegraph. "We said we'd have a pirate party, and Ellie came. She went to visit Reece a few times in hospital as well."

The "wedding" took place July 4 and included rings, a stand-in vicar and a certificate. Reece died the next day at his home in Mackworth, Derby.

Yea, that was a horrible idea.

The child is just 8 years old. Which 8 years old child knows anything about marriage and all that? I'm sure that will haunt the young girl for a long long time, affecting her growing years and eventually her entire life

I totally agree with Emie and Fluxos.

That really was not fair on the little girl, not one bit.

Talk about feeling like she "had" to. Or her parents feeling like they had to because of the situation.

Now that's being put on the spot!!

The kid really didn't marry the girl you guys. The parents pretended to "marry" the kids, but i'm sure that the kids knew it wasn't real and the adults told them that they couldn't get married for real because they are to young.
