    Sum up :

A woman stabbed to death in a German court was an Egyptian who had sued her attacker after he insulted her for wearing the Islamic headscarf, Egyptian newspapers reported on Friday.

Marwa al-Sherbini, 32, who was killed in a court in Dresden on Wednesday, was the wife of Egyptian academic Elwi Ali Okaz who was also hurt in the incident and is now in critical condition in hospital, the state-owned Al-Akhbar reported.

The attacker stabbed Sherbini "shortly before she was to give evidence in an appeal lodged by the man against a conviction for insulting her over wearing the hijab," said the state-owned Egyptian Gazette

The body of a Muslim woman, killed in a German courtroom by a man convicted of insulting her religion, has been taken back to her native Egypt for burial.

Marwa Sherbini, 31, was stabbed 18 times by Alex W, who is now under arrest in Dresden for suspected murder.

Husband Elwi Okaz is also in a critical condition in hospital, after being injured as he tried to save his wife.

Ms Sherbini had sued her killer after he called her a "terrorist" because of her headscarf.

The case has attracted much attention in Egypt and the Muslim world.

German prosecutors have said the 28-year-old attacker, identified only as Alex W, was driven by a deep hatred of foreigners and Muslims.

    'Martyr'

Medics were unable to save Ms Sherbini who was three months pregnant with her second child. Her three-year-old son was with the family in court when she was killed.

Alex W and Ms Sherbini and family were in court for his appeal against a fine of 750 euros ($1,050) for insulting her in 2008, apparently because she was wearing the Muslim headscarf or Hijab.

Newspapers in Egypt have expressed outrage at the case, asking how it was allowed to happen and dubbing Ms Sherbini "the martyr of the Hijab".

Senior Egyptian officials and German diplomatic staff attended the funeral in Alexandria along with hundreds of mourners.

Media reports say Mr Okaz was injured both by the attacker and when a policeman opened fire in the courtroom.

You probably won't get any, there are some people on this forum who are very pleased that a Muslim woman was killed by one of their kind.

It's the Atheists and Christians in this forum who consistently stand up for Muslim women.

You mean either (a) non-practicing Muslim women, or (b) Muslim women who were victims of their respective cultures, where Islam can be conveniently blamed for. That's the kind of people you "support".

In defense of little willy I must say that while he is a hateful racist, he is too much of coward to do anything like the German guy did because he will be afraid the woman is going to bitch slap him all the way to his hiding place under his bed.

First and foremost: My condolences to the Sherbini family. رحمها السلام (May she rest in peace)

I think that women all over the world should have the right to wear a Hijab, and conversely women all overt the world should have the right not to wear a Hijab.

As for Alex W. he should be put away for many years - there were enough witnesses to his crime.

"On 11 November 2009, Wiens was found guilty of the murder of El-Sherbini and the attempted murder of Okaz, and sentenced to life imprisonment." -- Wikipedia

That's the difference between Dar al-Islam and Dar al-Harb. In Dar al-Harb, these people are sentenced to prison. In Dar al-Islam, they are lauded as heroes.
