Egypt proves to be false friend

    The government of Egypt has come under fire as the people are dissatisfied with the fruits of their labor.Over 300 died in the uprising that overthrew Mubarrak.But the people feel that nothing much has changed.
    Unemployment is high and with the tourists no longer coming the economy is in tatters.Added to all that the recent soccer violence has given the government a new low in the opinion polls.

    So what is the govenment response? Well the old tried and true method in that part of the world is to blame foreignors.They are now blaming the U.S. funded pro democracy groups for "stirring up the people" and for "inciting and fomenting dissention".This is of course is meant to try and remove blame for their ineptitude.

    They are preventing 6 Americans from leaving the country until they go to court and 3 more are taking refuge in the U.S. embassy for fear of arrest.The U.S. gives 1.3 billion dollars to the Egyptian military.This ought to be suspended and not one penny given to them until all the Americans are safely back home.

    The facts don't support what you wrote.As you know the military is in temporary control right now until "The Muslim Brotherhood" takes over.The U.S. government has demanded that all the Americans be sent back home.And Hillary Clinton today labeled the charges against the Americans as "politically motivated".So in this case nobody is taking any orders from the U.S.

    Mubarak (who was a puppet) is still in power with this military that is getting funded directly by the US. So yes, the facts do support what I'm saying.

    This latest incident is orchestrated to show that the military is somehow independent.

    @Mikael
    Mubarak is a dying man who is under house arrest.He's not running anything.

    @Lindabrock
    Yes it was very sad,but incredably the govenment is blaming "American troublemakers" for starting the riot by supposedly posting inflamatory directives online before the game.

    His remnants are. Time for US to cut aid to this corrupt military. Doubt they will do it though.

    @Linabrock. Egyptians are blaming the military for causing this havoc so they can continue with their military rule.

    Darn Egyptians, America threatens to suspend aid and then 19 Americans are going to be sent to trial. The other 24 to be charged aren't Americans so they don't count.

    The newly elected government apparently seeks to calm Egyptians by proving that they won't accept US interference anymore.

    As long as they receive a fair trial and aren't simply killed without trial then civilisation reigns in Egypt.

    @boblord666
    I wasn't aware of the total number of Americans and others caught up in this mess.There you go....you see there are times when you are better informed than I am.Maybe I should start reading the New York Times.:)

    The US never had direct control of the Egyptian military. We simply pay their salaries, so long as they keep the peace. Looks like that is coming to an end. There are now far more Egyptians protesting the military rule than ever protested Mubarak, and as one might expect, the military is not exactly anxious to relinquish it's new found power of rulership. They are looking to divert blame to anyone they can, rounding up foreigners of any stripe and claiming they are the source of the unrest in Egypt. Overall, pretty stupid. Now the US is threatening to cut it's 1.5 billion in annual funding to the military, and even if the military does relinquish control, the Muslim brotherhood that represents less than 30% of the people looks to control 80% of the newly formed parliament.

    Basically, Egypt is F'd. More likely than not, we will cut their funding, the brotherhood will take over and there will be a bloody civil war. Hey, look at the bright side. Mubarak is gone! LMFAO.

    You cannot believe everything you here like this.

    I personally was on vacation with friends long ago in bangladesh long ago where we saw people arguing in a market for an hour about eating during the islamic month of fasting, and one ending up stabbing the other, and the locals started rumours that Indians had invaded the market and trying to start fights between people.

    Rumours such as these are bad.

    US or No US. Egype people and government need to fix things.

    I believe they are trying but are up against generations of corruption.But the Egyptians(the people not the government) have an amazing culture and history.These Egyptians will see the thing through,and hopefully will achieve the freedom and democracy they have fought so hard and bravely for.
