    Let's say I have a website at - www.mydomain.com
    I create a blog at - blog.mydomain.com

Will outbound links from blog.mydomain.com effect in any way my main website, i.e. www.mydomain.com?

I read recently that subdomains are being treated in a slightly different way recently and not sure about this matter.

It is still an "internal" link, Google also is viewing sub-domains as part of the regular website now. This was stated at the last Pub Con.

they consider no. of backlinks as a differently from domain and sub for PR issue. but if subdomain got too much outbounds links it will give bad affects to main domain as well. they will think you are doing some kind of linkfarm.
