I have to disagree with most of the opinions against adlinks
I placed the horizontal adlink 460*15 under my logo and it is receiving a lot of clicks doubling my whole ctr. maybe you wish to give a look at how I arranged it: www.hackerscenter.com (look just under the main logo on top).

horizontal adlinks brings the 65% of my whole adsense revenue.
I've never even imagined it could happen with adlinks...if you think ppl have to click twice. I think that a great majority of the ppl clicking the first time clicks also on the ads list. we don't have the number of first clicks so this is just an ipothesis

I tried adlinks on one of my sites and did not have much luck with them. I have since removed them. :(

    This just got me thinking..

What if Google came out with a new adlink type unit, where it would be like adlinks, except instead of going to a page full of ads, it would go to the top ranked site in that catagory?

The rank could be by relivency, or by price.. whatever Google wants.

That would be quite proffitble to publishers IMHO. Only problem would be that it might have less quality traffic for the advertisers, as they'd just get a keyword instead of a full description.

the new horizontal link unit brings 50% of my total adsense revenue, eventhough the click rate is quite low compare to my other ad formats.

Seems like the ads in link unit are higher paying ads?

I am running the normal adlinks and they do pretty well. I like to think that the people who click adlinks are not interested in the other ad formats. I may be wrong tho!

I suggest putting them on your site and creating a custom channel for them so you can analyze their performance. Let it run for at least 3-4 days so you have some decent data.

One thing I have noticed is that there appear to be more ads with adlinks - pages that had no ads with normal adsense blocks now have ads when using adlinks.

depends on your site's layout. a lot of ppl are claiming that horizontal ad links work best for them. for me, it's not the case

i dont get a ton of traffic, but I rearranged my whole site and put the 728 adlinks at the top and they make more than any of the other ads.

I have been using vertical adlinks without much success but will try using the horizontal ones now and see if revenue increases

In my experience, CTR improves with link units but earnings-per-click goes down -- and total revenue goes down. I've removed all but a couple of link units from my site. But that's my experience, yours may vary.
