I'm trying to decide whether I should start using the new adlinks format (the latest adsense format that looks like a list of text links, topped by 'Ads by Google'). Does anyone have experience with the effectiveness of this format as compared to the 'normal' adsense formats (leaderboard, skyscraper, etc), I'd like to learn about it.
i've tried it ... and i didnt even know that user have to click twice .. so i decided to drop it .. im doing well with the old one but not the new one
I tried it for a little while... until I discovered that visitors would not only have to click twice, they would also have to look at an entire page full of ads, probably clicking on the cheapest ones I'm going back to this particular dead bird when someone comes up with a serious case study suggesting I can double or triple my ctr
On the plus side though, you can have them for free, it doesn't subtract from your 3 AdSense blocks per page
i have been using adlinks and they account for about 30% of my adsense income. so i'd give this feature a try
See, this I didn't notice... I'm coming round: This seems to be a must-have in blogs where you'd like more than just 3 blocks of ads... I'm trying to build it in my next blog based website over the next three months. *hating-the-3-ads-restriction*
You also might want to start out with the new horizontal format if it fits into your layout. I don't think it's necessarily less effective. Think of it as a supplement not a replacement to what you already have (or want). I think it appeals to a different type of user than regular Adsense.
I tried the horizontal adlinks as well, and there was no real improvement over the vertical offerings.
my problem with horizontal ad links is that if there is not enough of them (say there is only 1 of 4 ad topics available for a given page), this 1 ad topic can appear as the last link on the right with a bunch of empty space in between "Ad Links by Google" and that link. IMO, neither is it esthetically pleasing nor will it render a decent CTR
I'm finding the CTR of the horizontal Adlinks is pretty good though it may just be because people are not used to them yet. I'm not keen on the aesthetics due to the spacing between the different lengths of links, I am sure I could improve on this with better integration with my sites.
Yes, they can be blended in pretty well.. but for most of my visitors, they don't exactly like going through a whole nother page, full of ads. I'm getting almost nothing from adlinks. Still, it can't really hurt to have them on there. if you blend them in nicely, and since it doesn't count twoards the three limit .. you might as well just stick it on there. Josh
The main problem I can see is that it gives a visitor a means of leaving your site without you getting paid, but I would expect them to leave and click on ad or press back but visitors are funny creatures
