Effective signature?

What are the best practices for making an effective signature here? I read the rules, but they only describe the restrictions, not the recommendations.

I notice some people just put two keywords with no other text in their signatures, while others go fancy with large red font and smileys.

What do you think works best, from SEO and CTR perspective?

Did you do any testing of different signatures?

I know I should be focused on what I post, but I've just added a signature now and realized I'm not sure it is optimal.

There are generally two types of signatures here; ones where people have a couple of keywords in the anchor text for SEO purposes and fancy ones to attract clicks from DP members - it's difficult to compare which one is more efficient (especially since there will be big differences based on the subject matter of the website(s) in question).

Both are efficient. There is no difference.

Whatever keyword your trying to rank in an anchored text will suffice, anything extra is extra
