Effective AdSense Placement

By now I've realized that I know very little about effectively using AdSense when compared to many of the people here. Based on your experience, what is the most profitable size / location for AdSense ads on the home page of a busy website? top, bottom, side of page? Is bigger better, or is a single ad more likely to garner clicks? Any help is appreciated.

What about sample pages? Does anyone have examples of sample pages with PROVEN good placement? I am getting nowhere with my site.

728x90 is very effective for top page placement, also i like 468x60 for this!
120x600 and 160x600 are very good and effective banners for left/right place on page.

Also i'd recommend you to use text inline advertisements too, for best effects!

    thewebhostingdir,

Thanks for the link. Nice page and the ads seem to really stand out without being obnoxious. I think this is a good example of how to effectively place ads.

    Cheers

    Brainet,

That's a good point. I will read them again, but I like to get the wisdom of third party experience as well. Groups of people often identify subtle trends that are hard to glean from a help file.

    Cheers

I find ads that are inside the content increases your CTR by quite a lot. I haven't had much luck at all with skyscrapers. Ran a few tests on them, found that they naturally give low CTRs. Block ads are always the best for a high CTR. :)
