Would a sites SERP for all of its keywords be affected if links to it with negative anchor texts came up? (i saw someone posting in a blog under the name 'malware' (the anchor) and linking to some site, so it just got me wondering why he'd do that, is he trying to do something to his competitions Rank?)

That site could start to rank well for malware - it won't affect the other keywords the site appears for, it's more a 'bad reputation' thing, that the site could start appearing when people search for malware

There is no such thing as negative anchor text, negative links yes but text, never heard or it. As Magda pointed it out, it may rank for the word malware and it will take a lot of backlinks to climb the top search results. Did you know that for so many years adobe.com was (and is still) ranking well for the keywords "click here" (at the time of this writing) try it :).

    Hi,

I don't think a few inbound links would not affect your SERP. But, outbound linking to bad neighbors would have negative impacts on your sites. Google does have a link for reporting malware purpose but not in this way. :)

    all the best,

Few back links will not effect and if link quality is poor than it may down your site quality, it's sure.

It is an interesting question. The first thing is that It will increase the website traffic and general pagerank no matter what.
Secondly it would not affect the serp of other keywords at all.
Thirdly It may or may not rank the website for the keyword Malware depending on more facts.
The most important thing which will decide this is that the website is about malware or not. If the website is not about malware at all ( and do not contain this keyword anywhere in the target page ) there are pretty no chances of ranking for that keyword ( because if it was so you know SEO would not have been the best business but the competition killing. :) )
But if the website is about malware it will take the effects of anchor text and will start ranking for those keywords.

One very interesting post about the same issue is here http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1902566
Where Google Ranks for Exit Here

But look at the comments from other SEO experts especially this one
So in short, Google algorithm is now very resistant to mis-use of SEO.
