Each time you re-write your advert copy, it'll have to go through the quality scoring procedure again, yes.

If you have an AdWord ad that's performing well you're not going to change it anyway, right?

Just add multiple ad copy to the same ad group as split test adverts, and then remove ones that aren't converting after a test period.

I'd rather say that thing that matters when it comes to account history is your keyword list. As far as I know ad position is based on keyword level. Ad texts are of course a part of this process, but IMHO they have much lower weight.

If I'd be on your place I'd not frequently change texts that are performing well. And if you feel that a text performs not good enough - change it, there isn't much to lose (note that having keywords in the ad text will help you :).

    cheers,
    Arin.

Quality Score is not stored at ad Level but at keyword Level - changing ad will not affect directly your Quality Score - but can affect indirectly if you kill a good performing ad.

The main problems of changing a ad is:

    - You loose the ad statistics history (CTR%, conversion ratio, ...)
    - it'll need go to review process again and there is a risk to be disapproved this time.

Avoid changing your ads but make a new copy - Only change/delete an ad if it is performing bad or it has an inconsistent information on it that need to be changed.
