How does do backlinks to sub pages effect your base URL? Is there any benefit?

I have a couple of sites which are getting a fair big of backlinks on sub pages...just wonder how it weighs on the entire site.

    It's usually a desirable situation.

External pages link to certain of your internal pages (a good thing for those pages). Your own internal navigation links should ensure that those internal pages all link back to your home page. Both the internal pages and your home page benefit.

quality resources often have many deep links.

as link popularity enters your site it flows throughout your site via your internal linkage.

I try to get as many links to inside content as possible. I've noticed it does wonders.

An example is ppl in forums linking to their threads or others.... sure way to make the thread pop up in SE's...
