I would like to know if a private school with about 150-200 students, 3rd - 12th grade can obtain a .edu domain? The school is accredited through the National Private School Association. If so, how would you go about obtaining one?
The answer to your question is no, it cannot. EDUs are reserved for accredited higher education institutions. The alternative for your school would be to acquire a grandfathered edu, which doesn't have such requirements.
How we can buy the edu domain without owning the real university or collage at real world ? So, I think, the edu domain can't be sell to any person or any company.
Gov - please see #3 in my original post. Grandfathered EDUs don't have accreditation or usage requirements / restrictions. So you don't have to be a university to own one. Also as stated above, you cannot buy an edu directly, but can acquire an entity, which owns a grandfathered EDU.
No you can't. It is not even easy to get a .EDU. There are lot's of qualifications and you must be an institution.
kingmagi, please see the original posting at the top...it pretty much answers your question. To Heather's point, you should distinguish between new and grandfathered EDUs. For new EDUs, you must be an institution, accredited by a recognized accrediting agency on the U.S. Department of Education list. It takes about 3-5 years and a budget of well over 500k to get to that point (i.e. to get accredited). The alternative is to acquire a grandfathered EDU domain (more accurately, acquire an entity, which owns a grandfathered EDU). Grandfathered EDUs don't have accreditation or usage requirements / restrictions. You don't have to be an institution to own a grandfathered EDU.
