.edu sites, good for SEO, is it true?

    absolutely because they are comparatively limited in numbers and second Google assumes that Universities will not create link to a site unless it has something creditable to say.

    As people have said above, there is nothing algorithmic in Google that prefers .edu links to others. Its just a tendency for these sites/links to be more trusted. But having said that I would echo what sadekjake says above - an edu link from an unmoderated blog hosted on a .edu site is far less powerful than one on the main university/college site which has been editorially added.

    .edu and also .gov sites usually have a good reputation. Also in the search engines. They won't link to sites that can't be trusted or have bad content. That's also what search engines think.
