.EDU Links - Are they really Nitro Boosters?

Or its just a hype? I am seeing a few people selling .edu links for reasonable deals. Question is do the .edu links seriously boost your website up in ranking when it is searched on the keywords? Are they considered to be crucial for seo purposes? Any one who has experience about this?

Your feedback is much appreciated. :)

A link is a link. I have seen evidence that Google gives a bit more PR weight to .edu/.gov/etc sites, so if there is a relevant .edu page with decent PR, a link would be valuable. But some random student with a random webpage full of links would probably not be too beneficial - but check the PR :).

If you're asking if 1 or 2 .edu links immediately = improved SERPs ranking, the answer is "only a bit more than links from similar PR pages", unless your keywords are extremely niche with little competition.

Crucial? No. Helpful? Yes, if they are relevant.

.edu usually have aged domains, more backlinks adn higher PR so are usually good backlinks. I think they're good backlinks because of the above aspects, not because they have the extension .edu.

Not if the normal backlinks also have high PR...then they're equally weighted.

.edu and .gov are more trusted links, its just alot harder to find blogs for .gov sites

And yes they do help out alot.

If EVERYTHING is the same (relevancy, pr, anchor, etc) an .edu link will be more beneficial from .com

They? You mean Google, Yahoo, MSN, and friends? Well, of course they would write that. However, the reality on the field, several extensions are favored.

To put it simple, .edu websites generally dont link outside so their links are valuable, but imagine the day is not too far when google will go ahead and give lesser value to those links too

the link from .edu/.gov really help to increase PR of your page. It is always recommended to have few .edu link than lots of .com links.
