    Would it be better to get a backlink from http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/ (considering the .edu and .gov) or a website just one of the two?
    Does it even matter since it ends in .ca?

    every link will help you to get better serp but i dont think edu and gov links does not have special importance on seo (this is just my personal opinion)
