Hey. I am intrested in getting some .edu domains. However I only use GoDaddy for domains and they do not provide .edu domains.

Dose anyone know the best place to register these domains at? I am not sure where you can register them, never mind the best place to register them.

    Thanks,
    BlueEew.

Make your own college or university or make a really good educational site and you will get a .edu domain :) otherwise I don't know any method...

It would be great for gaining page rank LOL. We all know that Google gives extra credit for .edu domains so imagine all the webmasters grabbing .edu domains for link building purposes.

If the domain was registered before being a university / education institute was required, then yes. Off hand, I dont know that date.

There is only one registrar that handles .edu's and that's educause. No new .edu can be registered except by an accredited college. The only exception to this rule are .edu's registered before Oct, 2001.

ok ok - you got me :) just joking around here !

whats the whole point of having an .edu domain that has NO trust, NO inbound link profile like that of real edu, NO listing on Googles whitelist in TrustRank patent, NO traffic and NOT even any pagerank?

Selling $5 blog posts on such a crap domain is not better than selling blog posts on a 3 months young blogger blog with PR2...

I've seen some .edu domains floating around in the seconady market, but I'm not sure how legit they are.

    It's no question about legit

what's their inbound link profile look like?
    do they have content?

if not, forget it and get a nice .com

Why exactly are .edu domains very good for link building anyway, is it because not many people have them or something like that?

There is a school of thought that suggests .edu and perhaps .mil, .gov, et al. domains inherently pass more trust in their outbound links. As far as I know Google’s Matt Cutts has suggested otherwise with comments like:

Thanks for that, so they are just better for pagerank then. I don't think I am going to rush getting some .edu domains then.

No, you have to be an accredited educational institution/establishment
