You can find yourelf some related .edu or .gov posts in any niche, you just have to search for them. Ask your good ol' friend Google :D

Still has a lot to do with the authority of the domain, and the quality of the content on the page.

Our experience has been either to purchase them from a domain like eBay or check .edu or .gov pagerank with PD software.

EDU's and GOVs are worth much more than regs but its a lot harder to get them then to get the norms. Its probably worth it to just run around everywhere looking for regs unless you have a pretty good trick to getting the edu & gov's.

I concur Laceygirl. We have found .edu and .gov sites on the average are PR5 and above.

I get .edu and .edu.<insert country domain here> reasonably often, people just link to my site in their resource sections. I just have that kind of site, it happens without me asking.

    Hi,

Personally, I would like to recommend you to install SEO4Firefox add-on on your Firefox browser. Then, performing searches using your targeted keywords and the SEO4Firefox add-on would return all .edu and .gov links to your top competitors.

    all the best,

I agree with Laceygirl as well, that is why I am a big fan of creating EDU blogs and raising their PR to give myself low OBL in niche do follow links! Nothing is better for raising your ranking with Google than that!

That is a well thought out strategy, Smartalex4. Have you employed any other?

I think it's worth the effort, Google loves EDU links.
You can get free links just by searching for
    site:.edu blog/add a comment/forum etc.

Do you use this exact string? What results have you gotten with PR5-PR9 sites?

GOV and EDU link authority is still a myth. Many one even some seo expert do saying about this many times. It does make sense because most of education institute and government website are not linking to everyone just because they got paid. Most of links are selective so it's worthwhile to believe that link would have more trust from Google over ordinary link. I believe both were used to be an authority somehow until misuse and spam from unethical webmasters make their value diluted.

Then are you stating pursuing .gov and .edu backlinks are no longer worth pursuing, or are you stating something else?

I acquired the majority of my edu blogs in one of three ways:

    1. Asking university students out-right to create blogs for me. Figure out which university have a high PR blogging system and use a little bit of persuasion and if that fails regular Paypal payments help!
2.Use a bit of social engineering/loop-hole/luck and qualify for an Edu blog....the ebook that I sell is basically one of the loopholes that we discovered.
3.Find a university that allows you to create an edu blog without actually attending the university or at the least accepts your edu email address (you can go far when you have your own real edu email address)

    Hope that helps.....good luck!
