Hello guys im confused about .edu and .com links, dont know about the difference between them!!.... are .edu back links more powerful? please tell me briefly thanks!
Generally, .edu links come from Colleges/Universities. Broadly speaking, those links would be harder to manipulate than a .com site. It is debateable whether they actually have more authority just because of the .edu extension, or whether it is because College websites have more authority anyway. Cause or effect. . .???
actually i didn't got you! and you made me more confused! well i think peoples try to get backlinks from the .Edu because they are associated with Colleges and many Well educated peoples read these websites so their are chances of getting traffic! But same question again that whether they actually have more authority just because of the .edu extension or not!
Any one can gain a .com domain. There are no proper restrictions. But .edu, .gov, etc domains are provided to only to educational universities, and govt. departments only. So the probability of genuine content is high in these sites. So Search engines usually give more importance to links on these sites.
No, they do not. I don't know what you mean by "authority" anyways. Is that a new ranking system? Oh, I get it, PageRank is meaningless, but "authority", which no one knows what it is or how it is measured is important. yeah sure. Many people think .com's are better than .info's. It's impossible to clear their heads. SE's do not care what the TLD is. They care about relevancy to the query and incoming links. But people are paranoid and superstitious. It's really amazing. This is not witchcraft or voodoo. /rant Bompa
Actually the last time this topic came up, someone linked to a Matt Cutts interview where he stated that was just a myth and Google does not put any additional value to *.edu domains. They have noticed previously that *.edu domains usually have higher PR's than average though.
They don't have extra value just because they are .edu or .gov. They have extra value because GENERALLY they are high authority sites and harder to place a link on. I mean is like the FDA's site on prescription drugs or your 12 year old neighbor's blog on her favorite cat treats for Mr. Scruffles going to be more credible to Google?
