A post on the editorial standards of directory descriptions and whether directory owners show any level of care was posted recently and a follow up to this has been posted here Reviewing a Site I found it a good follow up, hope others will do to.
That's the point MeetHere, most people DON'T follow these kind of guidelines which is why there are so many poor quality directories out there. They should be prepared to learn and improve their directories, and the directory owners with serious intentions will pick up on this, it is only the quick buck crew who won't be bothered to learn, they already think they know it all.
Well said. And those who follow this steps, will definitely get success and have a quality directory.
I think the point also needs to be made that it is never too late to take these measures on board. Whether you've owned directories for 5 minutes or for 5 years, these are the sorts of standards that you should be employing. The higher the standards you employ on your directory, the higher the regard people will have for your directory. For directory owners who don't know where to begin with all of this, I would suggest reviewing all your existing listings in manageable chunks (Maybe 1 category a day/week) until they are all cleaned of any bad sites/listings. If it seems too daunting and too much hard work, then think about closing the directory for submissions whilst you clean the listings up. It is more important for your content to be clean than for you to continue to increase listings. Think quality - NOT quantity.
That's exactly the message that needs to be taken on board if people really want to succeed on a long term basis. As much as people loathe Google, the one thing they keep banging on about is quality, so it goes without saying that if a directory contains quality in not just content but descriptive content then it has to reward you or face shooting itself in the foot. Thanks for the links Dan.
