Start >> Run >> notepad.exe I use PHP Designer 2006 (it's free) when I need to count lines, but that's it.
Dreamweaver is my personal favorite. It has a lot of code shortcuts, and makes developing much faster. I don't use the GUI part very much as it has mixed results in quality but the text editor saves me a ton of time. Ultra edit is another great program that speeds up development quite a bit.
I do everything in Textpad. It's a nice piece of software, but it is getting a bit old and I wish that they'd release an update in the near future.
I used to use dreamweaver but it was just too bulky, now I use notepad++ which is simpler and easier to use. I would use regular notepad like ninja suggested but I like colors and formatting
Microsoft Frontpage (any version) is best and most easiest to learn - period! I know others will say dreamweaver and others, etc..., but if you truly are a newbie and need and want to learn basic html, basic design, set up, then go with Frontpage. Try and get confused with everything else and then try frontpage. I did the same over 8 years back. I found that I was able to grasp and learn and DO with frontpage. Don't listen to the naysayers! They're all more experienced!
hello, Would you be developing web pages with server side code (php, cgi, etc.) or primarily client site code (html, javascript, etc) If you are going to develop dynamic websides using server side code, it is recommended to consider any of the text based editors. Since this is done by programmers, a visual tool like Front page may not be preferred by the coders. On the otherhand, if your website consists of primarily client side code, it is recommended to use Front page, Dreamweaver, or any other GUI based html editor.
