Editing video with after effects CS4 Quad core or Dual Core?

So I want to get into video some more. I have always wanted to and I am tired of not being able to. I am getting a green screen soon and hopefully a High Definition Camcorder. If I have some extra money I am going to get, I guess After Effects CS4.

So the question is I have around 3 year old CPU's. They may be 3 years old actually.

I have a AMD 3200 64 in both my laptop and my desktop. I tried to do some video editing and it takes forever. A lot longer than my youtube type videos took to do.

So should I get a Quad core or a Dual core CPU when upgrading? Will it be a big difference?

It is looking like I am going to be dropping a big bunch of money into this one day when I do it so I want what makes it work easy and fast.

you can actually get a quad core pretty cheap now a days. i have a 1.86GHz core2duo in my desktop and it runs CS4 pretty well. its laggy at times and i dont recomend leaving it open over night then comming back to it. it just kills your computer. you can get an awesome cheap pc from cyberpowerpc.com

Quad core + 8gb ram works wonderfully, and isn't that expensive at the moment

    Quad-Core what?

in the Intel Extreme Family? Intel Celeron Family? Intel Core 2 Extreme Family? Intel Core 2 Quad Family? AMD Family?

Each of this families have different versions of quad-core and have different prices. Not all quad core are good. :D

No, I mean will After Effects use the quad core cpu or would it just use 2 cores. Can I use all 4 cores to make it faster than just 2 cores? I read it can.

if your using a pc it will have restrictions specially on the RAM part ... now you can tweak after effects and its efficiency just look at other forums sites for it..
