I use Eclipse with PHP plugin mostly or NotePad++ for simple tasks. There are plenty others and it comes down to personal preference. Some like PHPEdit, RapidPHP, Dreamweaver among many others. Just try some :)

Notepad++ does all the tricks for you imo. The only thing it doesn't do is actually help you figure out how PHP works. If you want PHP helper editors I recommend PHP Developer 2007 or Dreamweaver. However, notepad++ is just simple and amazing ;).

I've always been a fan of Crimson Editor. It's real simple like Notepad++

I'm using PHP Designer 2007. It used to be free, but since a year or so there's a pro version, and the free version doesn't has many features.
Though, I bought the pro version, quite cheap for all things you get. :)
