I approach the door cautiously. My teammates are behind me, ready for any surprises. Once near the door, I holster the Heckler and Koch MP5 submachine gun that I am carrying, and draw out a device we call the Optiwand. It is a fibre optic camera designed to peek into places without exposing oneself to danger. I pull out the fibre optic, and slide it beneath the door. I flick the 'ON' button on the device. An image slowly comes to life on the camera viewport. Behind the door is a hallway, and a gunman is walking towards the door. He is clad in full Kevlar armor and seems to be carrying the Soviet-made AK-47 rifle. He is chatting, albeit inaudible, to another similarly clad gunman. Uh oh, trouble, I thought. Then an idea came to my mind. "Wedge the door. Do it quietly," I say to Reynolds. Reynolds nods his acknowledgment, and begin wedging the door. He placed the device under the door and click it into place. That door is now inaccessible to anyone without the proper device to remove it. While Reynolds is doing that, I remove the C2 breaching charge from my vest. I set the charge on the doorknob and attach it with the detonator. I peek into my Optiwand viewport. They are now walking dangerously close to the door, one behind the other. "The shipment is due today," I hear one of them say, "if this one goes through we'll be millionaires tomorrow." followed by a chuckle. Not for long, I thought. I hold up my finger to indicate silence, and motion my teammates to move away from the door. I wait with bated breath, detonator in my hand. Just as I expected, the door started rattling. "Damn it, what's with the door?!" I hear the voice. I count to three with my fingers, and then press the detonator. The charge detonates, blasting the door with such force that it throws the gunman off behind several feet. His accomplice, who is at a safe distance from the blast, is momentarily stunned, unsure what had just happened. I seize the chance, and train my weapon at the still-standing gunman. "Drop your weapon! Do it now!" The gunman, seeing five SWAT officers pointing weapons at him, with his incapacitated friend groaning in pain on the ground, knows he has no choice but to surrender. "Alright! I give up!" He drops the Benelli XM014 shotgun to the ground and raises both hands. Suddenly DeMarco says, "Boss, we've got a suspect." At the far end of the corner, a third gunman appears, presumably to check out the noise. Reynolds and Taylor keeps their weapon pointed at the surrendering gunman, but DeMarco shouts, "Police! Put your hands up in the air!" The third gunman is quick. He raises his weapon and opens fire. The first shot hits the surrendering gunman. The second richocets off the wall and hit a nearby glass frame. The gunman who was hit collapses to the ground, making a moaning sound as he did so. Knowing that a suspect who has opened fire has forfeited all rights to life, I squeeze the trigger, and DeMarco does the same. We are cleared to pop him. Both bullets find its mark, and in a second, the third gunman drops with a dull thud to the ground. We all wait for several seconds, and after making sure none of them is about to stand anymore, I holster my MP5 and spoke into the crackling radio. "TOC, this is entry team. We've got two suspects down, one dead. Notify the EMTs." "Roger that. Standing by for further reports."
