You coders are ALL MISSING THE POINT! Nobody wants you to build it for them! They want you to build it, set up a demo directory showing the application in the works (User interface, Admin, etc.).
If it works and has a good price, they will pay it.

Just go to demodirectory.com. Look around. Build the same thing for $300-500. You will be a millionaire. No joke! This isn't your normal freelance job. This is a build it, sell it, rinse adn repeat. I'm talking $300-$500 times 1,000's of customers. Don't believe me. Just put eDirectory in the message boards search. Everybody loves the site, but nobody is paying for it. When somebody gets their demo up, please PM me. Thanks.

eDirectory is probably overpriced for what they deliver. However, I think if a company delivered a high quality directory product, I would be glad to pay this price, with a 30 day guarantee. The problem is, I think, there is no market for a high quality directory, which would require this kind of pricing to support it. I believe that the market is for quick and dirty directories, and that is what is being delivered by the developers.

I disagree rich, the market wants a robust system...just not the hefty price tag.

 

I think the song goes "you can't have one without the other".

eDirectory's pricing is about what I would expect for a reasonable application. However, I think the product is not well designed, nor is the support structure. I think it would be a lucky day indeed to find a well designed application nowadays. Like blacksmiths, the art has been lost. So ... if I want to do it right, I will just have to do it myself.
