My main website, www.ExoticCarSite.com has 639 backlinks according into http://www.webuildpages.com/neat-o/ . A competitor of mine, www.Rsportscars.com has 840 backlinks. Our PR is similiar [mine is 4, his is 5] but our rankings are miles apart. ECS has been estblished for 3.5 years. Rsportscars, for about 4 I guess. According to Alexa he ranks inside the top 15,000, whilst I rank inside the top 150,000. Our content is the same, as we all use the same manufacturer press releases. I use meta tags, he doesn't. But yet, Rsportscars.com is always indexed and added prior to my site, www.ExoticCarSite.com , even if I had the content first, by even a few days. In our industry, being first to update the content is what brings in the visitors the most. They want the latest pics & information. So why is it, that a site with no meta tags, an additional 200 backlinks, rather equal PR, can add content after I do, and still be found in G before myself, AND be ranked number one / in the top 5 / on the first page? Suggestions? I know he uses AdWords too, since I've seen his appear through some program I found on here, but I doubt that is the difference. Opinions / Suggestions?
Just asking, is he listed in DmOZ perhaps? or more authoritative directories such as Yahoo etc. These make a difference. Sometimes its not quantity but quality. But i hear your argument..
I just finished paying someone here to submit my site to over 300 directories, so time will tell if that is where I'm losing out, as previously, I never had any directories listings.
Backlinks are just a tiny part of the SERPs algo... getting more backlinks is not a miracle cure for improving your ranks
Wait a second... you are comparing the two sites on two different measures... By starting out and comparing PR and backlinks you are talking about search engine ranking elements and by talking about Alexa, you are talking about traffic. A good search engine ranking helps your traffic, but search engines aren't the only way to get traffic. All things considered I think your competitor has a more appealing design, which might give them more repeat traffic and links. It sounds like you need to set a goal, do you want traffic or search engine ranking? If you want more traffic, use AdWords, and just better marketing in genral to get people to come to your site. If you want better rankings in search engines just keep adding links. One more thing, Alexa measures traffic using the Alexa toolbar, thus it measures the amount of your traffic that uses the Alexa toolbar as compared to the rest of the sites on the internet. In reality, Alexa's ranking system is not entirely accurate and can be cheated. Your site might not be that far behind your competitor, you might just have fewer visitors with the Alexa toolbar.
yes alexa toolbar is the point... ....so check your total traffic do u think that your opponent's traffic is better...also high rank in alexa is not considered by google search,,.,,,,only google pr is relavant.. Use alexa's site widget tool.....which displays your alexa rank to user....then you will see much improvement...... But how alexa counts backlinks(like google counts from it's indexed crawled pages)? And if backllink contribute to alexa rank or only traffic.
because the keyword is low of competitors so the sites can reach a top ten page without sufficient backlinks, but the on page seo is more important
