Hi, I am planing to open an ecommerce store. There are some questions I would like to ask.
Do we have to make a phone call to verify our customers on their first purchase? I asked this because my brother, He bought some products and he always get a phone called after his first purchase, he bought from around 10 different store already and they are the same. They call their customers after first purchase (his payment made via paypal credit card). So this is my question, if I open a store do I need to call like that? or is it ok if I don't?

    thanks

I have never given that advice to my clients whom we have done e-commerce for. It does however seem like a nice customer service thing to do. Probably would promote future sales if you give them a personalized call. Depending on volume however it may not be feasible.

it's up to your credit card processor to do that if they need to.

These merchants probably choose to contact their customers to minimize the risk of credit card fraud etc. By ensuring at least some of the contact details are correct I guess there is slightly less risk involved with the transaction.

There are no set rules to how you would have to approach such things. Different stores have different policies with regards to credit card purchases and the like. Keep in mind that as a merchant you do not really have any protection against credit card fraud, card companies and banks can claw back funds (even if paid already) if there is a dispute over payment.
