    • I'm searching for a good ecommerce software for my website.
I read about prestashop , shopify , virtuemart , oscommerce, magento and some more and i didn't like anything!
Or it's too expensive , or the add-ons are too expensive , or the security is bad , or the hosting very small , or the platform isn't good enough!
Please recommend me on a good Ecommerce software that has a good security with a reasonable extensions price and without the crappy hosting that they offer, i want to host my website on own hosting company.

I feel your pain, every cart I've looked at has a hamster running on a wheel rubber-banded to popsicle sticks somewhere in it's design.

I'm sure some people will stop by and tell you how awesome Magneto is. If you took a bunch of made up Chinese jibberesh, shook it in a 50 gallon drum and packed it into a ten gallon hat that would give you about the same level of logic as how Magneto's interfaces are layed out.

The best non-hosted option I looked at was X-cart, shipping options were great but then something about it pissed me off, I just can't remember what it was.

In a lot of cases it depends on what you're trying to do with it. One cart will work great for someone with 1500 products and then another person will have 3 products that simply can't be configured to work with the cart. Or the product configurations will be great but the shipping options will be as intelligent as Dubyah trying to explain where the WMD's were in Iraq.

All the wordpress carts suck donkey nuts, just warning you in advance. It's a shame someone can't come up with a killer WP plugin cart system because that would be insanely awesome. I did find a cloud based WP plugin that would suck up your site design and integrate the payment and checkout pages to look like your site, was a really cool idea but the cart options were the equivalent of Shopify's half starved crack baby.

Let me know what you think of x-cart if you look at it, it's the only one I've looked at I would remotely consider.

    rashida,

Looked at AJ and their site is a little scary. Anyone that uses that many obscure adjectives while not constructing rationale sentences frightens me a bit. Is this just a language barrier issue? I'll sign up for a demo if you pinky swear this isn't a scam. ;)

Those ecommerce applications you mentioned also have paid (hosted) and free versions besides other than most expensive Enterprise offering. The modules you pay for depend on how you wish to expand the standard features of shopping cards. A hosted shopping cart (i.e. Bigcommerce, Volusion, Prestabox, MagentoGo, among others) maybe the option you want to go with if you're on a tight budget or you don't have the patience to fix bugs found in open-source shopping carts solution.

I've had good experience using WordPress WP-ecommerce. In my opinion, wordpress is best software ever, and this e-commerce component is a good addition to it.

Also I would like to recommend that you have a look at Opencart. It's a very promising e-commerce software, simpler and more user-friendly than Prestashop or especially Magento.

Running an e-commerce store can have quite a bit more overhead compared to an informational site. When comparing prices, keep in mind that hosted solutions like BigCommerce and Shopify set you up with an SSL, managed hosting, and in Shopify's case (not sure about BigCommerce) a CDN.

Look into ePages, they charge monthly depending on your needs, they are extremely easy to set up and tweak to your specifications.
