    Hi,

I am wondering if you can share your experiences of shopping carts. I am looking for an easy to manage cart that has the following features:

    - Good Language Handling ( ie X number of descriptions for one product)
    - Good Cross linking of products in multiple categories (products in multiple sub-categories, sub categories in multiple categories )
    - Perfect SEO URLS and good SEO features in general
    - Ideally XML Feed Generation
    - The ability to create sub stores ( ie one store may just be a store of one section of a master store ).

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

I would suggest Zen Cart or OS Commerce, they are both very good ecommerce software and their both free. They can do most of those things, but you probably have to find mods for some of them.

    Good Luck!

Zencart & OSCommerce both are really very good for ecommerce store.

Read features of both and use as per your need.

osCommerce and Zencart are very difficult from the design customization point of view. They require good PHP qualification.

I am new to shopping carts. What would you consider the best cart regardless of price or features? TIA.

What do you mean by the best?
Best from support point of view?
Best from design customization point of view?
Best from upgrade point of view?

For example, at this time I have client which requires that new upgrades shouldn't destroy their storefront design. As I found when you upgrade storefront based on osCommerce (http://www.oscommerce.com) it destroys your design because design and PHP codes are mixed. I found Avactis shopping cart software (http://www.avactis.com) and as I see after upgrades they don't destroy the current storefront design. Also as I found Avactis is very easy from design customization point of view. I'm exploring the other shopping carts (cubecart??) which are the best from upgrade and design customization point of view.

I would definitely go for oscommerce if you are looking for full control of your cart. I have used this cart system years and years now and have been a contributor of functions to it too. I hav e tried different cart but the only flexible cart system I found was oscommerce. Best of all, the cart is free, support is free and plugins are readily available on the internet and on thier site.

I would say best from a design customization point of view. Also, what are some of the most recognizable and popular carts? So far from my brief research I've heard about osCommerce, Zen-Cart, CubeCart etc... Can anyone give me a recommendation of which one to go with? Zen-Cart and OsCommerce are the 2 that I 've heard of most often lately.

    Thanks.

My experience is quite limited, but from messing around trying to get my own ecommerce site set up I found that Zen Carts is a lot easier to install and get running. As far as getting contibutions and modules OS Commerce has a lot more going for it then Zen Cart. Just go to the sites for both carts and browse through the modules sections for both and you'll see what I'm saying. In the end I choose to go with OS Commerce.

Hmm, what about VirtueMart? (virtuemart dot net)
    Anyone using it?
It's a cart, based on Joomla or Mambo CMS.
    Looks neat!
I am using osCommerce in (Farsi) and it's REAAAAALLY not flexible!!
I am having a hard time with customizing it. The design part is really a mess. But the features are great. Have to compromise!
