    i m developing a eCommerce site using a wordpress theme!

    Please guide me on the following issues !

    1. can i host my site on a shared hosting account ?
    2. What are the risk if i host on a shared hosting account ?
    3. Is SSL required/mandatory for eCommerce site?

    Will be grateful if you can input me some tips and tricks for an eCommerce site !

    I too am having one drupal based one. Being startup I cut of all costs by starting with shared hosting. No probs!
    If your count of visitors increase, just upgrade the hosting.
    Absolutely no risks!
    SSL is not mandatory!

    2. if other sites on the shared server are hogging resources (memory/processor) your site performance may suffer
    3. if you're accepting payment information over the 'net - yes. And your customers will expect you're using SSL when they visit your pay page.

    I would not recommed shared hosting for ecommerce ,which creates trouble on your storefront shop.

    That depends on quantity of products you want in your ecommerce store , and also ssl certificate is not necessary thing but if you use it then its very safe .

    Yes, As you will be selling your products online!

    You are required to have SSL Certificate for, Register Page, Login Page, Forgot Password Page and if you have any specific pages where users used to fill confidential details.

    I feel that having SSL certs for your site will be beneficial, as users will donate online and online transaction will happen, and credit card information and all such sensitive information will require for the same purpose.

    The more customers trust you, the more they donate. An SSL certificate encrypts the connection between the browser and Web server. And protect all sensitive data from hackers and fraud.
