I am getting involved with a project that was supposed to move a hosted store to an e-commerce solution on our servers. I had a few questions for the software consultants and it became apparent that they did not have e-commerce experience. Some of the first things I checked were SEO related including on page SEO work (unique titles, H1 tags, alt tags, etc) and plans for the transition with 301 redirects, etc. I also looked at basic webmaster best practices like using CSS and placing Javascript in a separate file and was disappointed on all counts. My question to the forum, is what sort of things should I have on my check list for general software consultants who are making their first attempt at e-commerce? What do non-e-commerce people typically miss?
