Does woocommerce have the flexibility to handle being a store with a full scale blog as well? Or would I have to place the blog or store on a sub-domain?

woo commerce is just a plugin. You can usually always set a blog template for a page etc.

Do the product pages and blog posts share the same categories?

Certainly, happy to help. This is a theme consideration really but as long as you use something that has an actual blog or even page template you should be all set.

I think there is no need to place your blog or store on Sub domain, Wordpress is a great CMS, which provide all the functionality at one place so why you want differentiate it? (For that you have to install second Wordpress)

There is no confusion between your Woocommerce product category and post category because both are different taxonomy. Just remember one thing, don’t give same SLUG to any two term and if you are not a professional developer than you can hire a professionals for your requirement. Hope you have a great system and All the best.

Thank you, I have been developing wordpress blogs and websites for years. This is my first time developing an ecommerce website. I just want to make sure I get this right and reduce the mistakes I can avoid.
