Ebooks as marketing?

    Hi.
I'm in the process of building my new blog, and, as I'm a writer, I thought that ebook marketing might help me. By this I mean writing ebooks and giving them away for free, and then put my site URL in the header and footer.

Would this be worth it? I'm only talking about mini ebooks with around 10 pages, so it won't take that long to do...

    Thanks in advance.

Yes it's worth it. Offering your ebook for free is also a one way of marketing. Beside inserting your blog URL in the header and footer inside the ebook, you can also insert an affiliate links to a products that is related to your niche.

Although ebook marketing used to be a great way to start your marketing previously but of late it has lost its sheen because of the fact that so many others have also jumped into it "me too" attitude. Unless you offer really useful and credible on that ebook or something viral, i doubt that you can make an impact here..this is just my two cents!

At the moment I'm not part of any affiliate programs, as I wanted to fully focus on getting the blog up and running and getting loads of traffic. Then I might start to introduce affiliate programs and similar items. Thanks for your help, though, I've repped you :)

Well, the ebooks I plan to write have never been done before, and are going to be pretty relevant to quite a lot of people, so I'm hoping that they'll get read. The information I will give in the books will be useful, and, because they're only short (max 10 pages), I hope that the reader will keep interest.

A free e-book is a good viral way of marketing your web site. People tend to share e-books with others.

That was my thinking behind the idea, but brings me onto my next question: shall I distribute the book by myself and only let people download it from my website, or shall I let anyone distribute it as long as they keep my name/URL in it?

They work well to increase RSS or email subscribers if you promise it as a gift for subscribing!

Thanks for the link. I was reading that post yesterday and is actually what gave me the idea to try out this method. I'm certainly going to try some of those techniques :)

How would you set it up like this?
I mean, how could I make it so it was only available to people who subscribe, as I don't have any mailing list software.

Ebook is perfect is you want something that can spread virally. A lot of marketers notice this and use ebook as a way to build their mailing list.

This is a very standard marketing practice, I would suggest building up a newsletter that drives opt-ins via the ebooks.

I guess this is one of those subjects where opinion may vary. Personally I think it has been overdone. Unless you have great name recognition, it is hard to promote by ebook. I'm not saying don't do it because every little bit helps, but usually sites have to do a combination of marketing to get some traffic. Keep plugging away and someday all it may take is an ebook with your name on it and thousands will flock to your site to learn what you have to say or offer.

Yep it works...A "how-to" in a niche that is not making money or how to start a blog...or something like that can put you on the map. I have used free ebooks with great success.
