Ebook Writing Software?

What software would you recommend to me if I wanted to write an ebook?

I have a Macromedia Flash installed, so that gives my Microsoft Word the ability to convert the document into a PDF file. Is this a good way to publish an ebook or not?

Well, sure is..all you need to do is convert doc into pdf. I personally use NitroPDF for that but anything is good as long as you can add links, pictures and such.

I prefer to convert my e-books to pdf format when i distribute my own e-books because they are easy to read and distribute.

I also prefer e-books in pdf format when i buy e-books.

So, my recommendation is to use the pdf format for your e-books.

Does anyone else hate reading PDF? I'd rather just get a damn site membership or text page.

Because it's portable, clean, lightweight and versatile. Oh, and doesn't
    require an internet connection.

I'd prefer a .TXT file over a .PDF... But some people say I'm an obselete model of human race... ;)
I think people who are in ebook business should provide their buyers an option to download a PDF, or an exe and let the reader choose.
    Bye :)

I think the people that like PDF are only the webmasters selling ebooks. I cannot imagine anyone ever voluntarily reading something in that turd of a format. :)

What would you prefer, that allows offline viewing of rich text and
embedded media like pictures, videos and audio. Let's also not forget
the hyperlinks, dynamic forms and plenty of security measures.

I like .EXE format ebook files. Compilers for those today support all those you mentioned including flash and media and javascript as well. Not all compilers, but most of them do, and one does not need to download a "huge reader" software to read those ebooks.
You can get a good compiler for under $50 and if a branding logo on top does not bother you, some are free as well.

One benefit I see of using a PDF is that mac users can also read those ebooks which I think is not yet supported by exe files.
That's why if you plan to "sell" ebooks, make both formats and let the buyer/user/readers choose. :)
    Bye :)

HTML can be read offsite and in fact leaves much more room for monetization / supplemental income. I don't see what the problem is.
