Feature eBook Marketplace

We have built a better marketplace system for eBooks that is now live.

    What does it do?

    • Sets up PayPal transaction for you
    • Lets the buyer download your eBook the instant they pay
    • Buyers can review your eBook as well as rate it
    • Allows seller to optionally discount eBook for premium members
    • Image/YouTube video can be embedded within the eBook description
It protects the seller from fake bad reviews/ratings since only actual buyers can rate/review.

It protects the buyer from fake positive reviews/shilling because only actual buyers can rate/review. Also, no one can sell a duplicate eBook.

    How can I use it?

Sellers can list an eBook for sale here (available under the UserCP):
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/marketplace.php?do=forsale

Buyers can browse eBooks for sale here:
    http://marketplace.digitalpoint.com/ebooks.php

What does this mean for the old B/S/T selling forum?

We'll see how it goes with the new system... if people like it, the old system will become deprecated and no longer used.

We will see how it goes... if people like the new system, it can be extended to other areas fairly easily (at least areas where someone is selling something digital)... for example, content, templates, scripts, vouchers/coupons, etc.

But that's getting way ahead of ourselves... want to see how people like it first.

    Wicked thanks Shawn.
This will improve things for sure. Might not be too much of a stretch from what you've already done to add a dimesale feature, that's really popular especially with ebooks. Setting a starting price and price increment amount... Maybe something to look at next time you are mucking about with it.

Interesting idea... although don't want to throw a ton of features into the mix quite yet. Want to keep it pretty simple initially.

I haven't sold anything in the past, but I now may be interested, I have my own content.
Increasing the price by a certain amount with each sale is something that works very well and make people take action right away, not leave it for another day (and forgeting about it).

The $5 minimum fee is a bit high for ebooks if we want an active market with lots of buyers.
If the fee was lower I would sell some ebooks around $7 - $10.
Private label books aren't accepted? Only resell rights are banned?

    Looking forward to participate!

    Shawn i have question.
How about if a certain seller bought my ebook.
Then he was able to make some comments/reviews regarding my ebook i was selling.
Then later on he file a paypal dispute and got his money back.
Now my question was that will this new system covered on the paypal dispute protecting the seller?
I mean will the system be able to detect buyer who bought ebook but later on file a dispute.
There are number of what i call "buyer scammer" doing this method.
    Abusing their paypal buyer protection.

Paypal doesn't give refunds for digital products like ebooks.

Are you sure about this bro? cause as far as i know ebooks being sold online (downloadable only) which is not being emailed directly on the buyer address has no paypal protection on the part of the seller. But maybe i'm wrong. But i guess i was pretty sure about this since i made around thousands of ebook transactions already.

I'm glad to hear about this. Ebay has made more and more difficult to sell ebooks over the years, to the point of being basically impossible. So this will definitely get some action here! Hope not too many bugs in the new system...

That never happened to me, but I've read many times that Paypal only gives refunds for tangible goods. If someone opens a dispute you should tell PP that it's a digital file. Explain and show that you delivered the item (track ip numbers on your member's area). Of course they can chargeback with their credit card, and your account will be flagged if you get too many disputes.

This is great news. Some of the sellers stop selling a long time ago because of the so called reviewers never actually reviewed the ebook and just past it around. Thanks for the update Shawn.

The idea is to have unique eBooks that the seller is the one that actually wrote it.

The minimum fee may change in the future, but it's a bit intentional to attract high quality eBooks and not just a ton of cheap ones as people "race to the bottom" as far as price goes. Again, it may change as needed in the future, but we'll see... I'm more interested in quality over quantity.

The system does a couple things...

If a buyer gets a refund or files a dispute, they are instantly disabled from being able to download the eBook or edit/add review/ratings. In the case of refunds/disputes, reviews are deleted and the star rating is deleted if it's high, but KEPT if it's low. If someone leaves someone a 5 star rating and then gets a refund, it's probably the seller's friend or something else shady. If someone gives a low rating and gets a refund/dispute, the low rating stays.

Correct... you just need to put in your dispute notes that it's an intangible good and does not qualify for buyer protection. Of course if PayPal gets enough disputes regarding whatever it is, they can just shut down your PayPal account for fraud (like if you are selling something and delivering something else).
