Hey, does anyone know of a free (or very inexpensive) template/guide to making good looking ebook covers? Most of the good looking covers I am seeing are almost identical in style, there has to be a secret I am missing out on ;)

Something that would look along the lines of these:

P.S. I generally suck at photoshop.

The examples you showed are just simple web 2.0 stuff. Personally, I hate that style. But that is just my personal opinion and doesn't matter much since the majority of people do like it. ;)

Anyways, you need lots of colors, gloss, gradients and reflections.

    This should probably help: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2007/03/10/web-20-tutorials-round-up/

If you would like to have designed some really good quality ebook covers
(realistic looking ones, just like photos of books) I might could make you a good offer.
That's the stuff I'm doing every day ;-)

Just take a look at some samples at http://TheDesignHouse.uber.com/samples .
Not made with low quality photoshop actions ;-)
