I've been using CoverAction Pro lately (for Photoshop). Very happy with it.

I have used boxshot 3d but sometimes the rendering seems to take ages ... may just be my machine is bogged down with so many graphic programs ;)

but I use the stuff in my sig a lot these days ... :)

what's the obsession with ebooks on this forum? I mean maybe I'm shletered, but who the dirty H reads ebooks anyway? I don't know of a single person, amateur or professional who either buys or read ebooks....

I do know of people who work in bookstores, libraries, people who read tremendous amounts of printed books and even some people who have published their own books (which I bought more out of politeness than interest)

If it's worth writing, it's worth printing serisously. And the inverse of that is true, in case you didn't pick it up.

Printed material takes a lot of money, you think twice before you go and get something printed. Sure crap books get published all the time, but I sure wouldn't wanna go read a book that the author didn't think was worth it to get printed.

Secondly, why would you try to make the cover look 3d? it' not a real book, why pretend it's in 3d space when everybody knows it's not. When you do this you can't really see the cover for what it's worth, and it is really tacky.

I've just gotta get this off my chest because I see so much of it here.....not directed at any one person.

Wow man you obviously don't know the power of eBooks lol. Printing an actual book takes a shitload more work, time , and money than making a snazzy pdf file. Plus, in a bookstore you can't exactly compete using SEO and keyword techniques. If this was Real World Point Forums and not Digital Point forums I would somewhat agree with you. As for the 3D appearance...it's the same principle cereal companies use to get children to beg their parents to buy it which is appealing to the masses. If it looks all flashy, colorful, and fun they are more likely to take interest in it. This is the same for books in the bookstore. If the cover looks nice you are more likely to pick it up and give it a chance rather than some plain gray colored book. And just to take it a step further...what looks better below:

    or

Now if you think the first one looks better then I just don't understand...

can't that be done with websites, RSS feeds, PDF's......I mean maybe I'm missing something here, but book books contain content SOMEBODY thought was good enough to publish. I can get electronic versions of printed books fairly easily. I've also gotten manuals, instruction books and tutorials as PDF's.

Why is this marketing and selling on the internet in a category of itself?

It is a category of itself simply because it can be. People like buying stuff off the internet. People like getting stuff instantly. Thus, the digital product was born ;)

eBooks are just a different market than books...although some books tend to provide both digital and actual copies of their material. It's all about convenience for the buyer, and catering to their needs/wants. Just because you make an eBook doesn't mean you should publish a "real" version and likewise you don't have to make a digital version just because you published a book.
