ebay sales - traffic

I am trying to get some other people's opinions. I put up an auction on ebay and I decided to pay the $40 to get full exposure with the home page exposure.

But when I look at my ad, all the people who paid the $20 feature are at the top of the page and my ad is on the second page.

I thought the idea of paying $40 was to get the exposure and more traffic. Why are the people who paid less getting the better positions?

Also, I never received any more traffic for having paid the $40. In fact, my store items which I pay like pennies to list are getting better traffic.

Has anyone been successful using the $40 feature or is it just a money grab which doesn't work??

    Thx for your views?

$40 option will put it on the homepage of ebay. There is a section in the middle of of homepage where all of the people who pay $40 will have their items in rotation. It wont necessarily show up on the homepage the first day, and it is not going to be on there all the time, only in rotation. It used to cost $99 for that btw. The 19.95 featured listing means it will show up at the top of the page on whichever page your item is listed on based on the sorting criteria. For example if someone sorts listing based on ending time soonest and you have 10 days left, it is not going to show up at the top of the first page unless there is less than 10 results. if they sorted by listed most recently then yours would show up on the top of that page.

    Hope this helps.

Actually this does help to better understand the system. If I read what you are explaining, it might have better to use the page feature at $20 rather than what I did.

I used to use the page feature years ago when it was $10 and it was quite effective as I was able to get more exposure to my store items. But I think maybe things have changed so much on ebay that my strategies may no longer work.

I basically figured if I did well years ago promoting one or two auctions with the $9.95 feature and my store saw the benefits, it would follow that my store would do very well with the $39.95 but I think maybe my thinking is flawed.
