I am not an ebay affiliate yet, but i have one question:

    Let's imagine the following situation.

XYZ it's already an ebay customer.
XYZ visits my site and click on one of my ebay affiliate links for a product
    XYZ don't make any purchase
XYZ go directly to ebay.com after 3 days and make a winning bid

Do i get the affiliate commission as the last referrer?

I'm pretty sure it has to be a direct link, so no. I could be wrong!

If it needs to be a direct link, then what's the point of the 7 days cookie ?

As long as they have the cookie, you'll get the commission.

At least half my sales are for items I'm not promoting - e.g somebody gets my CJ/eBay cookie by clicking a car auction on my site, then an hour later their daughter uses the same computer to buy a doll house.

If there is a 7 days cookie, I believe that means that whenever XYZ wants to visit that item in ebay, XYZ would be redirected to your affiliate link again. This will remain active for 7 days.

I don't know if XYZ would be redirected to your affiliate link once they visit the item again or visit ebay.com in general.
