It's great that the makers of such tools as BANS and PhpBay Pro have been able to update their scripts so quickly for the EPP changeover, but just a quick look at the link structure of the new and the old flexible destination links tells me that this is not going to be an easy change for a lot of people. This is not like the old switch from one tracking service on CJ to another one, where the link structure was exactly the same and just the first part of the url needed to be swapped. That could be fixed with one mass find and replace. The EPP flex links start with the same rover.ebay.com... but it's the rest of the link that has changed. Categories are no longer hidden in the url as a number, for example; the category names are now right there in the url. There are several other differences that are going to be very hard to change with a mass find and replace on many different flex links. If anybody has any ideas on making this switch easier, especially for those who were using a lot of flexible destination links, it would be greatly appreciated.
I asked the ebay team if there was any easy way of changing over and this was the reply, "Unfortunately, there is no way to change all trackable links at once. After registration you have to create them again with the Link Generator Tool." My site needs some updating so I thought I'd use the editor kit and blow me it's not available. I used it this morning from ebay or was I dreaming? It was quite early.
I'm still seeing "coming soon" for the editor kit. Creating the links with the link generator tool and replacing the old links is not an option for many people who may have tens of thousands of links using the old format. I don't know much about using Regular Expressions with Dreamweaver's find and replace tool, but I'm working on coming up with some sort of solution using that, even if it means doing a few dozen find and replaces for an entire site. It sure beats replacing all those links individually. If I come up with anything useful I'll share it - and if anyone out there has any good ideas for switching old eBay links to new ones using a mass find and replace tool I'd love to hear them.
I'm still in the process of this painful conversion as well. Too many changes in the new links that I dare not use a script to change them.
I'm not quite following. It appears all you need is campid, toolid and customid for the link to work (along with the new US code). I'm confused by your category names statement. Can you give me an example...old and new link? Thanks! hanji
I never used CJ links to generate ebay listings but I find generating listings using the Editor Kit on EPN very simple (I had one or two questions in the beginning but now it's a breeze). I am just wondering if it would be easier for most people to just generate new listings with the Kit.
