as far as i know, ebay is the largest advertiser of adwords. they have bidded on each and every possible term and thus depriving off smaller advertsers of using the url. for ex. i am selling any product using ebay and i want to give advertise the listing url thru. adwords, 99.9% it is possible that ebay would hav already taken that word. but the issue is not that. Most of the ads leads to general search pages inside ebay with no listings at all and that is of no use to the searcher. but if allowed i would have taken that keyword and used the domain name ebay for showing my listig url, but ofcourse i cannot do that as ebay has already listed it. my question is, does ebay does this on purpose. are they protecting their domain name from small advertisers like us? if so, what is the adwords editorial group doing there? that particular listing has no use to the searcher as he will be provided with a blank search page. discussions on this are welcome... regards, deepak kumar.c
There are scripts out there that will let you bring Ebay search results onto pages of your own site. Then you can advertise head-to-head. For example by a new domain called Ebay-Deals-Now.com or A1-Ebay-Prices.com and advertise head to head. Have the results go directly to the pages that the user needs - the ones with relevant search results - but all on your Ebay site!
Also, you should note that if you are pushing the eBay affiliate program, you can't use "ebay" (or any other eBay trademark) in your domain or sub-domain (you CAN use "ebay" in a folder/document name in the URL though).
that is what i was also thinking about... my main concern is not to use similar naming domains etc... my issue is ebay is bidding on all generic terms in adwords but they are not showing up relevant pages for searches. the ex. i have chosen is tile cleaners in US region. it shows an ebay ad but when you click on the ad, it shows, the product that you are searching for is not available. how is this going to be useful for a searcher? there are always a possibility that the searcher may forget what he is searchig for and start to play around ebay.... ...whereas i have a product that i am selling in ebay and i could make use of that keyword and list in adwords. there is always a possibility that a sale can be made, if the product impresses the searcher..... as of now, i lost a potential customer.... ---------- OH...by the way..this is my 50th post....
If the product you're selling is interesting then you are not losing the customer. Ebay paid adwords to bring the customer to their site so they can find your product. It is not likely that he is going to forget what he came for, if so he is not a potential customer, he is just surfing. Moral: ebay is paying the ad for you! ADDED: The title "ebay - not letting us use the domain name...." has nothing to do with the content of your post
They use dynamic keyword generation in their Adwords campaigns, which is why eBay shows up for nearly everything searched for.
obviously it does.... i am just tieing both ebay and adwords..that's all... as per adwords TOS...only one domain can show up in the ads and priority will be given to the owner of the domain...so i am bothered here bcos ebay is showing up ads with no content when that keyword would have been suited me... if u take my example of "tile cleaners" ..you see the ebay ad.. when you click on the ad there are no listings in the product page. what use will that be to the searcher. obviously i could use that keyword for ebay domain name and i can pinpoint my listin url to the searcher and thereby an increased possibility of a sale. also, there is always a difference of showing up multiple options to the searcher and only my product listing to the searcher.
eBay's not actually creating all the AdWords ads - it's their affiliates. Their affiliate program has some pretty nice margins so it lends itself nicely to using AdWords as a promotion vehicle.
