ebay issue, advice needed, domain not being transferred to me

    Hey,

I won an ebay auction for a website complete with domain on August 10, 2006.

    Payment was sent immediately.

I don't hear from the seller for 2 days, so I send an email inquiring on the 12th, he replies with this:
I asked for the content at least til the domain issue is resolved, I received the content, which I paid virtually nothing for, it's the domain I paid for.

The domain is with GoDaddy, over the past few days I've had 4 domains transferred to me through GoDaddy with no problems.

I wrote the seller again yesterday inquiring and he didn't reply. I wrote again today and still no reply.

My question is this, is this normal? What do I do? I am relatively new to ebay and don't feel like being screwed. :( Seller has a good reputation, 98% positive.

And is it heard of for GoDaddy to have the above quoted problem?

How long do I wait to file a complaint with ebay?

I bought a domain from Iowadawg which was registered at GoDaddy and we agreed I would put in a transfer request to move it to my account at Enom. After fooling around for almost two weeks we couldn't make it happen. I finally had to open a GoDaddy acount and he pushed it to that. Then I still couldn't transfer it because of their 90 day holding rule. It was going to expire before the ninety days was up so I had to renew it at GoDaddy.

That may or may not apply to the seller in your situation, but it is certainly possible he has run into some issues he didn't expect.

I ran into this on ebay with a site I bought.
Could not be pushed to my godaddy account because the seller had just registered it prior to selling on ebay.
The seller was nice enough to refund my money.

Another in the long list of reasons I hate to deal with godaddy.

Unless you want to wait for the domain, ask for your money back.

What I love on ebay (actually hate) are those sellers that have a $35 transfer fee!
Saw a great site the other day but did not bid or hit the buy now button because of that fee.

Yet another way sellers bypass ebay's fees.

    Thanks for the feedback guys!

iowadawg, me too. I saw a site I really wanted but you have to host with them or pay $35 to get out. I didn't mind in one case cause I can host 5 more domains there.

Whatever the problem he could at least reply to me and not let me worry, lucky for me, he's local to me so I can go kick his ass if I need to. :p

I haven't had this problem transferring godaddy domains but if they have a good rating I guess you can give them the benefit of the doubt.

Nice photo by the way Colleen... they get better everytime:p

    Pretty picture....can kick ass.
Sounds too much like my wife! LOL

Yeah, I don't like those "have to host with me for a year".
Like they want too much control over your site.

Sounds well dodgy to me but I'm not sure I'm reading this correctly. Are you trying to get the domain transferred from GoDaddy to another registrar? If so, that could be causing problems simply because of waiting period for transfers from one registrar to another for new, or just-transferred-in, domains.

If you have a GoDaddy account and you are waiting for the domain to be pushed to your account from another GoDaddy account, then I'd be very suspicious about the delay since there is no reason for it.

Most legitimate sellers are genuinely helpful so unanswered emails are often a concern.

You need to wait 10 days before you can file a complaint with eBay.

    Thanks, HDD. :D

Lol! Then you know I am scary stuff to mess with. :p

I looked more into it, the domain was registered Aug 2, 2006 with wildwestdomains.com or "Registered through: domain.GNPwebsites.com" those are in the whois. I assumed it's with GoDaddy, I guess those are resellers.

He never spoke with me except for the above quote so he doesn't have my info to transfer to makes me wonder how he knows there would be problems, unless he's having problems with other transfers.

Ah. First off I was going to say 'it sounds like a scam' until I dug a little deeper:
So it looks as though he / she has grabbed themselves a free domain which they are unable to transfer, having only registered it on August 2nd.

Deliberate scam or just plain f*** up on the part of the seller (most likely) ... either way, this one is going to give you problems and unless you really, really want the domain, I would, if it were me, ask the seller for a refund. If the seller refuses, file a complaint and try a chargeback.

Hey mcfox, I am not sure what you're quoting but that's not part of the sale I bought the domain and site from. What is that?

    No, it's not.

According to your whois on the domain, the registrar was wildwestdomains via gnpwebsites.com.

I checked gnpwebsites and they are a turnkey provider. It is their terms and conditions.

As far as I can tell, the person you bought this site from got it from gnp and the domain is locked into their terms and conditions for a minimum of three months.

I see now, thanks for explaining, mcfox. I guess they're an idiot, or maybe they own the registrar. I hope they respond and explain soon. :)

I'm guessing idiot. Too busy trying to grab a quick buck to read the terms properly.

Like I said, unless this domain is something you are really keen to hold onto, you might want to ask the seller for a refund before the 10 days period is up. Then, if you still don't have what was offered for sale, i.e. the domain; you can file a complaint with eBay and with Paypal as soon as possible and hopefully before the seller disappears from the face of the earth.

I just looked it over and that's for a free adult site, this isn't an adult site that I purchased. I wonder if it matters.. Oh wait, the owner of Gnpwebsites is the same name in my domains whois. hmm..

BTW, I told him to refund me and with Ebay it's 10 days minimum I have to wait to file a not received complaint.
