Hey guys, I own a mailform processor service (mail-maniac.com) and I run through my referrer logs to ban hotmail/ebay/yahoo login spoofsites. These kind of websites tend to be in my logs very often: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=008&item=180015645473&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MESE%3 This person is selling an xbox, and as you can read on the webite it is saying; Then my mailform processor code is pasted below that line. I think the explanation; "don't send I have a virus" is a little bit crappy. Is this user not using the ask-a-question button to prevent a 'scam' being noticed? This isn't the only ebay-website using my mailform, there were lots of ebay sites using my mailform processor and most of those biddings got removed by ebay. Is the virus-warning a valid reason or is the person trying to cover anything up? I'm not an ebay user so I really don't know anything about it. thx!
looks like that account might have been hijacked as someone with such good feedback I dont think would be doing that, Your ebay email/message can never be infected with a trojan otherwise its like saying ebay is infected with a trojan as they have their own message system in place which has its conveniences when you dont use your email like I do.
That's exactly why I'm suspicious But I really don't know the intentions of the user. Why would he skip the ask a question instead of the user review, what's the use of skipping it? I'm clueless..
When you use the "Ask Seller a Question" method then ebay ends up with a permanent record of the question. Now, if a buyer selects the "hide my email" button then the seller has to mail BACK through ebay, leaving a permanent record of the seller's response(with ebay). And ebay will also know which IP address the seller was replying from. The seller may be trying to avoid this back and forth messaging through ebay situation but to tell you the truth only a total moron would make up a story about a virus infection so I really don't know what else to say. But then again a total and utter imbecile could very easily convince himself that his "ebay email is hacked". Well, its a mystery.
Update: This listing (#180015645473) has been removed or is no longer available. Please make sure you entered the right item number. If the listing was removed by eBay, consider it canceled. Note: Listings that have ended more than 90 days ago will no longer appear on eBay. Try searching for another item now.
it happens all the time. Piracy I have seen before on ebay australia ebay does fuck all. Reason I dont like it is I cannot do it
Yes its cancelled again, but I still don't see the 'illegal' part of this ebay item. It still looks like a virus-paranoid ebay user, whos items get cancelled a lot.
The illegal part is that someone got access to an eBay account. They quickly put up an xbox at an unbeleiveable price. If the buyer used eBays email system, the email would go to the account holder and they would then realize their account wqas comprimised. The hijacker is hoping someone will contact them directly instead where they can agree a payment etc. When payment is sent...guess what? No xbox. The seller tries to claim but the original account owner actually has nothing to do with it. Thats why you never contact someone outside of the eBay system. Especially for popular electronics like laptops and xbox/PS2
Aah thanks. I forgot all about the account holder. So the cracker hacks an account to pose as a legimit ebay user and skips the ask a question button to prevent the real user form knowing about the business. I'll ban every ebay referrer from now on thanks!
Makes perfect sense, except that if you hijack an ebay account it gives you the ability to change the default email to your own. Why wouldnt this person try to do that, and if successful THEN put an xbox up for sale? Yeah I know you are gunna say the true owner will get an message from ebay saying the default email was changed but they will also get a message saying they just put an Xbox up for sale will they not?
That's why you should buy from someone who is located in your country. Easier to track him down that way.
